Who is the best striker to replace Zaquan?

Zaquan Adha Abd Razak will surely miss this upcoming AFF/Suzuki Cup thanks to ACL. But, who is our best bet to replace this pacey striker partnering Kelantan striker, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha.

Ahmad Fakri Shaarani (Perlis)
We can use AFS again like we did in Sea Games 2009. Rajagobal loves to use his service as right flanker. Good dribbling skill and finishing is best to describe about him.

Safee Sali (Selangor)
Safee Sali is an experience striker who already played for Malaysia during Olympic Qualifying when he was teenager. He set up through ball to Akmal Rizal to secure one point during meeting with China. Rembatan padu and strong physical approach are the quality that he has.

Ashaari Shamsudin (Terengganu)
Golden boot winner - Rajagobal has called the lad for trial during Turkey tour last few months but has been dropped for the next training. May be he is not fit into Rajagobal plan or he can not cope with Rajagobal strategy. But i think he is useful especially during set piece and he is able to penetrate with his good dribbling and pace.

Izzat Faris (Harimau Muda A)
Young HM A striker - i don't know much about this boy but he always get attention either by Ong Kim Swee, Rajagobal or Azrai Khor. (can someone tell me about this boy)

Kyril Muhymin (Kedah)
I used to rate him as the best player in Malaysia. Marlon Alex James also used to praise him and ask him to play abroad. after suffering ACL, his performance dropped and his touch also dissappear. I'm still hoping him to make the cut to jakarta.

EASIER FOR CHAMPS VIETNAM IN GROUP B

HANOI (15 Sept 2010) – Defending champions Vietnam have been placed in the easier Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 following the official draw ceremony this afternoon at the Sheraton Hotel here in Hanoi.

Hosts Vietnam, the winners two years ago at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 when they beat Thailand in the final for their first ever ASEAN crown, are in Group B alongside Singapore, Myanmar and the runner-up team from the October qualifying round.

But as Vietnam chief coach Henrique Calisto said afterwards, it is important to learn from former world champions Italy and not get beyond themselves.

“We have to respect ourselves, respect our opponents and realised that no team is easy. Just look at what happened to Italy. They were champions four years ago in Germany but in South Africa, they cannot even win one game,” added Calisto.

“We are the champions and we can do it again but we have to look at it one game at a time. We have to think of our first match against Myanmar first rather than thinking whether we can beat Singapore in the third game. If we lose the first two matches, what is the point in beating Singapore?

“It is far important for me to have quality matches rather than stars in the game. We have to have discipline, work hard and tactics.”

The tougher Group A see hosts Indonesia up against Thailand, Malaysia and also the winner of the qualifying round.

Wolfgang Pikal, the assistant coach of the Indonesia national team said that the draw is interesting.

“On paper, Group B is a little easier which makes our position in Group A being a lot harder,” added Wolfgang.

“We have new players in the team, so we are working hard to do better in front of our home fans. All teams are basically at the same level which means that the games will be quite close.”

K. Rajagobal, chief coach of Malaysia
“We respect all teams but as is common knowledge, things are not easy in football where there are a lot of factors which we have to take into account. We are taking each game as it comes and we fear no one.”

Myint Aung, chief coach of Myanmar
“The draw is fair and we will prepare our team as well as we can to make sure that we are competitive in all of our matches. Vietnam is very strong and as hosts, they will have the advantage. For us, we can only get our players together at the start of November after the Myanmar National League.”

The draw has put Malaysia together with Thailand, Indonesia and winner of qualifying (most prabably Laos). Our sifu Rajagobal has made it clear stance that his charges fear no one, therefore it's very interesting to see how young players that mostly from Sea Games 2009 squad will fare in this tournament.

Thailand obviously is the hot favourite to redeem themself as the king of football in southeast asean after lost to Vietnam in last edition. With help from English coach and series of friendlies against Singapore, India, South Africa; the Thai should at least qualify for the semis. I still rate them as the best passing team in SEA. Last meeting with Malaysia during AFF Cup 2008, the Thai defeated Malaysia with 3-0.

Indonesia, playing in front of 100,000 supporters at Gelora Bung Karno will 'welcome' Malaysia with special treatment. The relationship between these 2 nations lately spilled over to much awaiting opening match between Malaysia and the host. I really hope that our young players are able to absorb the pressure and intimidating atmosphere. The players are still young and inexperience compared to Indonesia but their commitment and character shown for the past 2 years really made us proud. They used to take mighty Red Devils, lost narrowly to Saudi Arabia and upset better team like Yemen. I'm not sure whether Indonesia will hire Sergio Van Dij who eligible to represent them.

East Timor continued fine run in AFC U-16 beating Singapore 3-0. They also held the host, China to scoreless draw at the opening game before rumbled the Hong Kong side with 3-0. However, there are some reports stated that they have fielded overage players for this Q though the coach tributed their good performance is due to the players have been together since last three years. Its reported that the majority of the players are orphans and do not know about the exact age. The FA also could not afford to perform MRI test for these players due to high cost required though they are able to set some friendlies matches in Brasil.

MALAYSIA TO SEND U19 SQUAD TO PRE-SEA GAMES

PETALING JAYA (26 Sept 2009) – Malaysia will join Thailand and Vietnam in sending only their Under-19 squad to the pre-SEA Games which will be held in Vientiane early next month.

The Malaysians have cited that the reason why they are sending only their U19 team is because the U23 players will be involved in the on-going Malaysia Cup competition.

But the U19 squad will not be totally devoid of players from the U23 team where they will still have the services of six players and they are Ahmad Shakir Ali, K. Gurusamy, Fandi Othman, Muslim Ahmad, Mahali Jasuli and Faizal Muhammad.

“The U19 team will actually be taking part in two competitions where apart from the pre-SEA Games, they will also be in Vietnam for the Thanh Nien Newspaper U21 competition (starting on 9 October 2009),” said Ong Kim Swee, the head coach of the Malaysian U19 team.

“Out of the current squad of 29 players, we will only be bringing around 20 players to Vientiane.”

For the pre-SEA Games, only hosts Laos will feature their U23 team.

For the Thanh Nien Newspaper U21 championship, the Malaysians will be up against the U21 teams of Iran and China in Group B.

Group A are the U21 teams of hosts Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore.

The U19 Malaysian side are preparing for the AFC U19 qualifiers in November in China.

In the meantime, Vietnam have named a squad of 30 players in preparation for the pre-SEA Games in Laos.

The team will be handled by former Vietnam national midfielder Trieu Quang Ha, who has replaced Vo Hoang Buu as the head coach.

"We are still missing some players because they are playing in the national U21 tournament,” said Quang Ha, who will trim his squad to 20 players later this week.

“The young players have a lot of potential and are very good in some positions.”

“Our main goal is to qualify for Asian U19 championship, so the pre-Sea Games tournament is a very good chance for players because they will play against strong opponents.

"After the pre-Sea Games tournament, the coaches will have three weeks to come up with the style of playing and make adjustments for the AFC U19 qualifiers."

For the U19 qualifiers, Vietnam are in the same group against South Korea, Thailand, Laos, Macau and Bangladesh where they will play all their matches in Bangkok in November.

Its interesting to see how the team will fare during these two back to back tourney. Harimau Muda undoubtedly did well in Premier League to outdo other experienced team like Johor Pasir Gudang and T Team but the real benchmark is our neighbouring countries, Thai and Vietnam. Thailand and Vietnam, well known for their strong youth team will show us where we are at this region. We lost to both teams during AFF U19 in Vietnam last month even though played well during semi against Thai. I am not sure whether China will be sending the U19 team during Newspaper Cup since we are in the same group with them in qualifying. Harimau Muda should be able to give fair challenge to the rests considering their good friendlies result in Slovakia.

MSL to be privatised??

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) --
The Malaysian League may be privatised in 2011 if the problems that plagued contending teams continue to persist next year.
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad cited the problems as financial woes (staff and players' salaries), dropped in the quality of the game and dwindling audience."
The Malaysian League's next season will be the FAM's last battle ground to find our way out of the quagmire."
As a result, we have introduced additional conditions to contending teams," he told Bernama.
Among them, the teams would have to pay a deposit to the FAM and produce proofs of their financial standing that would enable them to compete in the current season and the next one.
Contenders in the Super League have to fork out RM150,000 while that of the Premier League, RM100,000.
Super League contenders must prove that they have RM2.5 million in their accounts while that of the Premier League, RM1.5 million."If all conditions are meet and the teams take serious views of the conditions, the future of soccer in Malaysia is bright," he said.
Asked why the FAM had to wait until 2011 to privatise the league, he said it was due to the Malaysian culture.
"Malaysians like to have a dialogue first and only after enough time is given, they will go to the next stage before an action is taken," he said.
Azzuddin called on state affiliates to use the time left to fill up their coffer and take initiatives to beef up their financial standing.
